A special session titled “Remote Sensing Research for Cultural Heritage Protection” was held on 29 April 2026 in Paphos, as part of the Twelfth International Conference on Remote Sensing and Geoinformation of the Environment (27–29 April 2026).

Organised in the context of the SATCULT project by the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence, the session contributed to the broader conference programme by bringing together presentations focused on cultural heritage applications of remote sensing. Within this framework, SATCULT project results were presented alongside other contributions addressing the protection and monitoring of cultural heritage through Earth observation.

The session attracted strong interest from the 25 Cypriot and international participants, including researchers and practitioners in geoinformation and cultural heritage. It was characterised by active engagement, with a lively exchange of questions, comments, and perspectives following the presentations. The discussion highlighted current challenges, emerging methodologies, and future opportunities for the use of remote sensing in cultural heritage protection.
